Youre correct. LI will never have another track. National was great. Westhampton was good back in the day but run down before it closed. Now besides the runways at Grumman there no piece of vacant land big enough. Plus the politicans arent really interested in having a track. They want houses to bring more tax money in.
The old Flushing Airport would have been a great spot for a track. A nice straight runway, in the middle of nowhere, just sat for years growing weeds. Then they built heavy industry and shopping malls all around it, which raised the water table, and that flooded the runway. It is still under there somewhere.
