85 cutlass 3.8. over rough roads such as a dirt road I have a clunk in the front end. sounds like it's on the drivers side and it's gotten progessivly worse. sometimes it can even be felt I in the floor board. front end seems tight, shocks and sway bar links are 6k miles old. anyone got any ideas?

A shock comes to mind. Open hood and have someone bounce the front end corner and see if you hear it. If you do you will also be able to feel it so run hand on shock and suspension without loosing hand

Sounds like it might be a sway bar end link to me.

shocks and sway bar links were done last year and only have 6k miles on then visually the look good. I can bounce the car up and down and nothing makes a noise. I litterally bounced up and down on the bump and nothing. if I hit a smooth dip in the road that causes the suspension to squat, no noise. it's as if it has to be one side only which screams sway bar....

I also forgot to mention, when this noise first started, it only did it when I first started the car and shift into reverse. only made the noise once and never again until the car sat for several hours. which now that I think about it, that was because it was on high idle... guess I need to look at engine and trans mounts

Is it when turning or straight? A bushing may have given out somewhere.

My 2 cents

both, seems like if one wheel hits a sharp bump, it will make noise, or if I take a sharp right, it will make noise.
