Got the 86 GP, and it had been sitting awhile.. The tires looked great, but two are date coded 2003 and two are date coded 1994. Even tho the car was stored in a climate controlled environment, and they look absolutely fantastic, I am still going to replace them. (My friend insists they're fine to run, I disagree).

Anyway, there is a bit of vibration/shaking, but only at 58-62mph.. before and after, they're smooth. I figured maybe they needed balanced, I had a couple packs of balancing beads laying around (I use them on my motorcycle) so since I was going to replace the tires anyway, I just thought to toss them in and use them until the tires were replaced.

Nothing changed. I DO know my rotors are warped - typical surging when stopping - I already have new rotors and pads, I just haven't put them on yet. I did get under it and everything -seems- tight, and it does have new sway bar end links, so Someone has been under there messing around.

My question is this:

I don't think warped rotors would cause a vibration only at 60, would they? Im leaning towards bearings or ball joints..?

Thoughts?

Wellston, OK
Can you feel the shake in the steering wheel, or is it in the rest of the car?

225/70-14 Rear

If that makes a hill of beans difference.

55mph shake is usually a balance issue

Thats what I thought.. I will dig into it tomorrow. I had to do the rotors/pads/shocks (Oh, yeah the shocks are shot too) before the tires. Currently, its only being driven to work, no faster than 45mph, mostly 25-35, for 15 minutes..

I like your tag line, btw..

with tires that old the belts could have shifted or the tires may have some flat spots. I wouldn't worry about the vibration untill you have new tires and they are balanced...

Didn't think of Belts, thanks! That makes a ton of sense.

Yeah, I wasn't going to stress out over it.. I had the balancing beads laying around collecting dust, so just thought to try.

I am, however, going to put the rotors, pads, and shocks on, if I can find a garage.. 50 and Raining + Back on Wet Gravel Driveway = I'm gettin too old for that sh*t.

when you are doing the brakes check the flex hoses to make sure they are not cracked and check for bulges....
