front upper control arms

hey guys was working on my wagon today installing the drop springs got one side done before I noticed the upper ball joint looks off, I have spohn lowers and gbodyparts.com uppers both bought 5years ago almost but just installed starting to doubt myself if I have the uppers on correct (right side on the left kind of deal), since the uppers have unequal lengths is the long side supposed to be in the front and short in the back? or vice versa? in below pics I have the longer side in the back. Man I was hoping this was going to go smooth, wanted to be cruising next week 🙁 hope some one can throw me a bone

Yes, long in the back.

hey thanks hunter so the extreme angle that the ball joint shaft going into the spindle is natural for these arms? looking at them seems the boot is gonna tear pretty quick?

remember, you have your control arm at a point your never going to hit until you lift that tire off the ground plus it looks like you don't have any alignment shims installed yet

Pontiacgp is absolutely right. Once the car is sitting on it's wheels, the control arms will sit more level. The balljoint angle will straighten out somewhat. Also, no shims in place. That may change abit with shims.

That's why I like this site someones always willing to give a helping hand, thanks guys, I have shims in but its the ones used to align the old arms in the same location, luckily there's an alighnment shop right down the street from my house, hopefully I will be rolling by next week have not driven her for six months can't wait!

make sure you keep those uppers well greased and you might want to change the grease fittings to 90* fittings to make it easier to grease the bushings. I use the same style from UB machines and I've learned what happens if you don't grease them regularly the hard way

Do tell, what happens. I only have about 4k on mine, but they have been greased a couple times already.

the bushing is metal and doesn't have much material so they wear out and they get sloppy with the play...other than that they are nice and strong and can take a beating...
