One of the impending projects for the 81 is this fuel tank. It's a little bigger than the current one and has a sending unit! Not sure if the sending unit is on the left or right of the fuel cap. Then I got to see where the wiring has been tucked away. Any assistance in sorting it out is of course appreciated!

This used fuel cell did you already buy this, it looks questionable?

Is this a 20 gallon and are you sure you want a fuel cell?
I prefer aluminum fuel cells, the plastic ones tend to get "sucked in" over time in the center but if you plan on using this it will have to be thoroughly cleaned first.
The sender is the black piece with 5 bolts, this is a tube type sender that often fails and typically has 2 studs coming out for 12 volts and ground yours might have threaded inserts but I can't tell from your picture, also it appears your seal is cracked around the fitting which I would replace all of them (2 per fitting) and if there is safety foam it is probably time to replace that also.
And obviously the crud or whatever needs to be cleaned out of the fittings.

Not too sure on the capacity. It's got a smaller cell in it now, without a sender. I'll make sure the seals get checked then give it a cleaning.

Got it in and connected. Just need to determine if the green wire is hot or the yellow/white one. I tested the unit with a multimeter and got the same numbers when I had both as the positive.

*UPDATE*
Got to fiddling around with this. With no sending unit, the gauge reads full. So I hooked the pink to the sending unit's green and ground for the yellow/white. With that, the gauge reads just at the E line, which should be correct, as I have yet to gas it up. Next step is to get gas in it and see what the gauge reads.
