so..... discuss. What should we do with this thing? Keep it going as is? Ideas for change? Shut it down? Let's talk about this. Like adults.

My $0.02.....

I get that people feel like they're being excluded, but I can assure you that its not on purpose in any way. The "topic" or "theme" varies, and often gets real specific. Too vague and we get a LOT of entries which makes it difficult. I'm open to suggestions on how to handle this conundrum.

I can assure you guys also that its not "rigged" or "biased" in any way. I post up the entries and they get voted on, that's pretty much it. I put a 1-year limit on the winners re-entering just so that one person doesn't get it all the time....

I'm going to make another thread that outlines GBotM, get specific with a few rules and stuff, but its in no way set in stone.

I think it should continue as I like to see everybody's cars together.

I think those who complain are just sore losers who don't represent the feelings of the rest of us who know that its just not worth caring that much about an internet forum competition.

Don't have really too many suggestions in regards to how to pick topics. Sort of a tough deal either way for the reasons you gave.

I think the only change would be to maybe have a "runoff" in the event that multiple cars got over a certain number of votes. Just a thought.

It should definitely continue. Its a nice little morale boost and its nice to look forward to. I like seeing everybody's cars as well.

I had no idea its becoming a pain but as you describe it i can definitely see those being issues..

Suggestions;
1) (as you said) List the rules, make it a sticky. There are unsaid rules about people only winning once, or mods not being able to enter, i didnt know these rules existed, cuz they arent currently written anywhere (i wanna add to this see below)
2) You need to be a bit more strict with enforcing the rules which i think are fair for the reasons you mentioned, and probably add a "GP403's decision is final" clause in there. This past month, a few ppl were excluded based on the 1/4 panel not showing or something, but i dont see a 1/4 panel on the winner's pic (no hate, i voted for it, just sayin). I cant even recognize thats it a Gbody at first glance. A few months back, the pic submitted was not acceptable, but you entered the contestant anyway and had him post a new pic later, etc..The complainers are probably occuring because sometimes you are lax with the rules.
3) Its kind of a pain to do this every month. Why not get your moderators to look after it?
4) You could shrink the entry dates, and voting dates to make it less of a pain as well. And set up an automatic picture loading for the following month. That way you could upload the new pic in advance.
5) If you send the winners something, save it till the summer or some time that you are slow, send it all out at once. Mailing every month is taxing.
6) At the end of the day, its all in good fun and to support the hobby. No one is winning huge cash prizes or anything, so if ppl are getting bent out of shape cuz its "rigged or bias" then they need to back off and you should have a shorter limit for tolerating that kind of harassment.
7) For monthly topics, you could do a few things. a) Create a poll, and have people suggest and vote on it. To do this efficiently, you could do it for several months at a time, or the whole year. Take the top 12, or 6, or 3 topics voted on, and its one less thing to think about. b) Have a pool of suggestions, in the form of a thread, and select it randomly. c) continue doing however you do it now.

As for the rules, i think these rules are VERY necessary. The onus is on the people submitting, and not you chasing them, to get it right.
1a) The pictures should be a specific ratio, and minimum file size. Say 16:9 and minimum 3MB or something. Most of us have 1080P monitors, no excuse to have crappy pictures in this day and age.
1b) Single image. Lots of ppl post multiple images, and the best one doesnt make it.
1c) The images must be CURRENT. ie: Taken within the last 12 months. I think most have been good about this, but i wouldnt want to see a pristine picture from 20 years ago, of a car that is currently rotting into the ground, and probably doesnt qualify for the contest.

I agree with keeping it going and I think for many people it gives them a chance to put their car in the spotlight for a bit where it might go unnoticed otherwise since maybe it is a project car etc.
I do think this is coming up because the last two GBOTM were too vague on what qualifies and there were clearly entries that didn't fit the category but because of the lack of clarity still qualified.
I also agree that maybe see if one of the moderators can handle doing GBOTM and maybe keep a tighter timeline on starts, ending and voting.
I still think the winners should be able to choose the next category but think having some pre - approved categories would be a good option to have assuming you have at least a year before one repeats itself.

Keep it going !

Those that don't like it......don't participate it it then!!

Those that feel excluded speak up!!!!

The only thing that annoys me about it is you see a bunch of people jump in to see there name up in lights but have zero input on the board.

It is totally rigged. I have won three times already, with three different cars.

The one thing this site offers that (****ing) facebook doesn't is high quality detailed builds. I fully appreciate not everyone is in a place to commit to a full build - but, we have seen that isn't always required. Not to sound crass - but, if you aren't winning... work harder. Using a potato to photograph your car in the dark during a snowstorm with your finger over the license plate isn't going to cut it. Take the time to show everyone you give a crap about your car so that they will give a crap about your car. BE. CREATIVE.

If you are just fishing for "likes" there is a place for that... you get to solve your own problem - not the staff.

So keep GBotM. Set some terms of reference/rules. And support those who put the effort in.

I like seeing cars that maybe I didn't notice before for whatever reason when they turn up in the monthly, and if you're whining about being excluded, you're in the hobby for the wrong reason, IMO.

I see GBOTM as a showcase, whining about what is selected/picked/wins is car show mentality, where people are just there for bragging rights, as TURNA alluded to.

I think the last go around (unfinished) was a little ridiculous, some of the entries were way more finished than "unfinished" would imply....I figure if it's all one color (or multi colored by desing), has an interior, and runs/drives/stops and is used frequently, that it is out of the "spirit" of the unfinished category.
