What are some good ways to clean a gas tank that's been sitting ten years?

White vinegar, Gallons and gallons of white vinegar. Then give up and buy a new tank. Non-FI tanks are cheaper than dirt (almost cheaper than the amount of white vinegar needed to totally clean your old one). FI tanks won't break the bank, either.

30+ years is a long time for unprotected steel to be sitting in a corrosive environment. I would pay $200 for a new tank before wasting another 3 days cleaning rust out of a tank. life is too short, and new tanks are much cheaper than $200.

If a tank is 15 years old and has been sitting for 10 years, white vinegar. If its over 25 years old and been sitting for 10 years, get a new tank.

You won't get those days sloshing vinegar around in the tank back and the rust just doesn't stop coming out. ever. It slows down, but it never stops.

That's one thing I have to keep reminding myself of with this car. I keep thinking like I parked it last year when in reality I parked it in 05ish lol

if you do get a new tank make sure you coat it with a product so it won't rust out on you in a few years...

You should be able to get a new tank for less than $200

We use Sodium Hydroxide at work.... Let it soak for a week then blast it with a pressure washer.. Scale comes right off

See the tank in the car is super solid. And in the past I've had bad luck with repop tanks. Why I had considered cleaning mine
