Your PCM input and gauge inputs are different.

I recently made change from "idiot lights"

to the gauge package with the tach in my 79 Monte Carlo.

If you car had the gauges, the white wire for the tach lead should be under the dash clipped to the dash support near the steering column. If you are changing from the warning lights to the gauges then O.D. Showtime is on the money with what needs to be done. Below is a pin out map I found on line which helped with the pin location on mine.
