Jeeps all have a zillion miles, Astros are rapidly becoming extinct in the yards

Pros/cons of each?

The Astros need more mods to make them work. The good news is that the Borgeson-style joints on these don't wear that much. Ping Timo22 for more elaboration.

Astro need to be modified but take up less room

Jeep goes right in but vibration damper is just pressed in

both need the column notched to bolt into place

GM put the Astro shaft in a rubber 'Cocoon' as well. They are usually rust free when you pick them. Little nicer to work with. I've done quite a few.

I can buy Astro new GM for under $100...jeep shaft is discontinued, but available aftermarket. I'd rather not put used steering parts on, given nothing is known abiut them, regardless of the source (online or in a local yard)

Seems I remember seeing something about SOME Jeep shafts potentially having a lack of containment in the event of a failure

**Thought I posted this last nite...guess not.

Just ordered my astro shaft last week. I’ll have to find the thread about modifying them and weld it up next week. Great time for this post to pop up! I’m following.
