That does sound interesting but I wonder how many miles is the engine expected to last. They sure don't apply the KISS principle to the engine.

That looks interesting. Where's the flux capacitor?

Yeah. Probably going to cost a fortune, though.
I will cost a fortune when new but all of the Cadillacs that I've owned over the years were really 'experienced' by the time that I owned them...

good point about the KISS principle. The North* engines were basically disposable from what I've heard, could be the same for this engine. The good thing is that these modern engines do run forever if properly maintained..

This is a very technically complex engine. Just about every technology you can throw at an ICE, it has. Unless the donor vehicle had been impeccably maintained, I don’t know if this would be my first choice for a swap.

I agree.

I'm actually 'old school' as far as engine swaps go, typically like to swap in the higher output 'period correct' engine such as SBO or SBC/BBC in the case of a G-body..

The good thing with Cadillac is that your drivetrain warranty is currently 72 months/70k miles. Plus for the first 4 years, you get basic maintenance included, such as oil changes (per the OLM) and tire rotations and other little checks. I think it's so they can try and sell you more stuff when they notice some other component falling off. :) The CT6 is in my view, just a larger version of the CTS. More roomy, and a very nice car. PLUS, it's one of the last of the rear-wheel drive sedans.

To give some insight on Cadillac problems or not..... bought the wife a 2010 CTS wagon new. 3.0L engine (not recommended normally) and we didn't have a lick of issues with it (other than the common issue of the 2 foot tall taillights would try to separate from the body a little at the top leaving a sharp point to stab you when washing), in the 65K miles we had it. Functionally, that car was a gem.

She wanted an upgrade, so bought her a new 2016 CTS sedan, 3.6L V6. So far, took it back in during the first month for a paint defect, last month it went in for a clunk in the steering (they replaced a $1200.00 steering rack) and now it's in for the stupid CUE infotainment screen replace (common issue and nearly $1000 part by itself) as well as a TCC release issue (stutters a little going up a hill on light acceleration-imagine that, a bulletin is out on this). Just hit 10K miles on it. Thank goodness for the warranty.

All that to say this- Cadillac engines, for the most part, are like any other GM engine. They're lighter, stronger, and sometimes have little issues like block porosity problems. The only advice I could give anyone that doesn't have extra deep pockets buying a 4.2L twin turbo is to NOT MODIFY THE DRIVETRAIN to maintain the factory warranty and if you keep it a long time or put a lot of miles on it, consider an extended drivetrain warranty.

Warranties are nice to have but it's nicer if you never have to apply for a warrany isue even though you paid for it in the price of the car. My son loves his BMW and he knows to dump the car just before the warranty runs out. The used car lots around here are packed with used high end cars and judging from the year of the cars they are just out of the factory warranty or close to being at the end of warranty.
