V8 with two turbos and 550HP ...................meh
It's roughly the equivalent of a 550 HP 260 Olds V8. That's still impressive considering that's about a 450 HP improvement on a skateboard engine. :)

If you’re willing to push the limits a little, it’s probably capable of 700-800 hp. But with a price of about $25,000 (semi-educated guess) you’d better have deep pockets if you’re willing to blow up a few for R&D’s sake.

I like the torque rating, higher than the horsepower. Not as common now days as years past.

The best GM engines in 1970 all had around 500 lb. ft. In the last 20 or so years alot of the HP engines have had lower torque than hp. Specially small engines.

Naturally-aspirated, yes...The trend has definitely been toward smaller displacement and higher revs, which typically means higher horsepower and lower relative torque. Adding a turbo into the equation, especially in conjunction with GDI, can give torque a significant boost. Consider the latest Ford 3.5L EcoBoost: 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. Compare this to the 6.2L Gen-V V-8: 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. Not all GDI turbos are tuned for maximum torque, but many are.

The Northstar definitely had issues, hopefully GM didn't let the bean counters run amuck. I know the Ecoboost and GM's 3.6 V6 have had known timing chain issues, hopefully quality parts and tensioner technology has been included in this design. Any new motor is much harder than even a couple of years ago to swap into a hot rod.

I had an Ecoboost Escape yesterday - I could foot brake it to 3000rpm! And it had an obscene amount of torque off idle.
