Good evening everyone,

It's been a few years since I've been on the forum. I still own my El Camino, I've been slowly acquiring parts for a trans (700r4) and rear swap.

I picked this rear up tonight for $35.00, yup $35! I have a few questions. From the research I did online it on GM case identification, it appears to be a 8.5" 10 bolt. It has this weird flange on pinion. Was hoping you guys could help identify it.

I wonder if it's a BOP rear? I don't know much about them unfortunately

BOP would still have u-joint saddles on the pinion. That's a new one on me; never seen that. The only thing that comes to mind is an AWD Astro/Safari or Blazer/Bravada. Question: are those coil or leaf spring perches?
I can't tell from the thumbnail, and the picture won't open for me.

It has coil spring perches, how wide is it? I have never seen a yoke like that.

Late 70s Cadillac used a yoke like that. Can't find an image match for the whole assy though.

I'm guessing 73-77 8.5 rear. The late 71-72 A body 8.5 would not have that type yoke on it.

looks like a mid 70's a body rearend. if it has the bearings pressed on the axles, it will be a Oldsmobile rearend i think called the type o??? but yeah i agreee that flange is weird. never seen that

I know B body cars in the 70's had flanges like that. My 74 LeSabre uses a pinion flange like that because they used a CV joint at the back of the driveshaft.

I had a '75 Coupe Deville that had a similar setup but I seem to remember it being a 12 bolt.

I agree with spidereyes455. It looks like the CV joint on my old LeSabre. Better get the tape measure out and see if it is the correct width for a G body.
