I have a 1984 El Camino with a 305 small block and long tube headers. I have used both the gaskets that came with the headers as well as some other copper type. However, I don't seem to be having any luck with either and the left side bank seems to be causing lots of noise. What kind should I look into buying? Also, I've seen types being sold on Jeg's for both oval and square small block ports.....unfortunately I don't remember what the ports looked like. Any help on either inquiry?

I have round. Remember, your headers are round. The round gasket will be SLIGHTLY bigger than the port on the head, but match exact to the headers. The square match the head, but not the headers, impeding exhaust flow.
were the headers used when you put them on? the flanges may be warped if they were. just something to check...you can toss all the gaskets you want at it and it wont stay sealed if its warped. I believe not torqueing the headers properly could cause them to warp as well
I run Mr Gasket Ultra Seals with no problems. I have small tube headers and can run the round 1 1/2 in port gaskets, so there is a lot of meat in them from the edge to the port. Bigger headers may have problems with them. It is important to get gaskets that have enough sealing area around the welds where most headers have a raised area that is used for sealing.
