I've been toying with the idea of doing an LS swap in my 1979 Hurst/Olds to replace a non-original Olds 350. There's a local gentleman selling a complete LS3 and 6-speed auto trans from a 2013 Camaro that has 75k miles for $4000. Is this a good deal? Everything is included in the deal including the electronics, pedal, accessories, etc. I know these engines are becoming more plentiful and the price keeps dropping. I know I'll need a bunch of things to make it fit and work correctly in my car (i.e. mounts, oil pan, etc) so I know there's a lot of extra cost items I'll need. Does $4000 sound fair? I've read that the 6-speed auto (6L80E or 6L90E) won't fit the trans tunnel without major surgery. What recommendations do you have for a trans? 4L60E? 4L75E?
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks

4000 grand for 75000 miles of beat to poop fun, pulled from a car that was wrapped around a pole

If you cant see it run it may just be an expensive paperweight

Very true. I don't personally know the history behind this engine/transmission combo for sale. You may be right. Unless you knew the owner(s) of the car and its history you might be buying a total piece of junk. I totally agree with you, turna. But... isn't that a chance all of us take when buying something we can't personally vouch for? I know that's always in the back of my mind whenever I make a major purchase, including cars. I've made a few "mistakes" in the past and obviously hope not to repeat them. That's what great about a forum like this, you can learn from other people's mistakes, too, or make more informative choices based on other's experiences.
That being said, I guess the real question I was asking is: what's a fair price to pay for an LS motor and transmission? There are so many choices depending on the original application. LS1, LS2, LS3, LSA, LS6, LQ4, etc.
Right now I'm just considering it. If I move forward, I'd probably only consider the 6.2, most likely the LS3, just for the displacement.
Of course the money could just be used for a performance rebuild on my 350...

Again, I agree with you. That's a lot of money to risk in case it's a pile of junk. I have seen 2 cars at one of my local cruise nights: a 1985 Cutlass Salon, and a 1987 Cutlass Supreme that have had LS swaps. Both look like the factory put them in there. Very nicely done! I'm sure they put out a few more hp than the stock V8's they replaced.
