I'm going to call on both. Seattle is a long drive for an engine. Probably 20 hours towing a trailer, depending on weather. But I do get over there for work on occasion. Way better deal if I can get the company to pay for the trip.
Edit: I just went back to try and grab the photo but the ad is gone. I'll keep an eye out for it.

The "fresher" one close by would be a good buy if that was what I planned to end up with. I already have 2 Performer intakes and plan to go EFI so those aren't of any real value to me. Also strongly considering aluminum heads so they aren't really all that valuable either. That's really the main reason why the "core" option is intriguing. I could just build a shortblock to match the aftermarket heads.

So, I'm still chasing 425s. Have a line on one from a '67 Toro but the guy seems unwilling to communicate outside the stupid CL email system and it's taking forreevveerr. I've given him my number no less than 4 times. It's 5 hours away but would only add about 2-3 hours to a Portland trip, which I have coming up.

I've also tried dealing with a guy in Seattle with a stash of Olds engines but he's pretty flakey too.

Wish me luck on the Toro one. If it's a viable shortblock core, it'll work for me.

I may have said it before but I think it's awesome you are going with a 425.

I still say a 425 stroker SBO based off the 350 is better. Everything is lighter and stronger. Unfortunately the Olds V8's, especially any BBO are hard to find and people ask too much for unknown or damaged cores. Hopefully the crank and rotating assembly is in good shape.

That's really all I'm shopping for. Wouldn't mind finding a 455 block or two since I'll have a pile of spares when I'm all done.
