Once again, why am I the only one on my street flying the flag on Veteran's day?!? I don't get it. Everyone either is, or knows someone, who is a Veteran. Father, brother, cousin, uncle, drinking buddy, workmate? Can't bother to fly the flag? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I'm not bitter- just disappointed. 1668181248054.png

So few really appreciate the sacrifice of so many these days. That's a f**king shame.
Veterans didn't choose the fights. They chose to support their country. We should always remember & honor them for that. All gave some; some gave all.

A big Thank You to all that have served as well as to those still active!

"Not sure if it is celebrated up in Canada?" OH yes it is, Built6spdMCSS, OH YEAH. Very Much So. Just finished watching the Remembrance Day Ceremonies that are held annually up here at our nation's Capital, Ottawa. Geographically, the map puts it on the border between Ontario and Quebec. Not only does this ceremony commemorate WWI, but also WWII, the Korean War, and Nato participation all over everywhere, but also the Gulf and Afghanistan.

The only war that gets no official recognition up here is the Vietnam conflict, which sucks because, for every draft dodger that managed to sneak into Canada, a CANADIAN CITIZEN freely and willing decided to sneak the other way and enlist. A lot of prospective enlistees did get detained at the border while trying to make the run as we just happened to have had a socialist Prime Minister back then and the PBS was piling higher and deeper by the minute. I cannot offer an exact figure for how many Canadians served actively but the ratio of us to the dodgers is around 1.1 to 1 meaning that more Canadians chose to serve than those who came up here to hide. Moving On.

Physically it starts with the Last Post and progresses from there. Wreaths are laid by the various branches of the Service, the Service Vets, the Silver Cross Mother, and our First Nations Vets, among many others

They did a multiple fly-by as well, usually using contemporary air frames but this year they added a third wave composed of a Spit-Fire, a Hawker Hurricane, and a P-51. Wasn't aware of this but apparently the 51's got air time in the Canadian Air Force starting in sometime around D-Day.

This was all ended by a full march pass, with all of our veterans who were present and wiling able in formation and walking tall and proud as they led the way.

It was kind of sad in a lot of respects as this year our oldest Canadian veteran passed away at 101. The commentators did mention that he was in the Artillery Divisions, so a cannon cocker I suppose.

Locally, we have Remembrance services at both the North and South Side Cenotaphs. Here on the south side it got moved indoors into the arena as most of the veterans had reached an age where being outside and imitating a popsicle just wasn't on anymore. This year the temps were okay; just that we had a whole day of freezing rain and ice pellets to make the roads interesting to be on. The North still has theirs outside, and our immediate First Nations neighbours have a ceremony of their own that takes place up on the mountain.

So, to answer your question, Yes.

LEST WE FORGET

So I get emails from the Ground Zero memorial because I served there during 9/11. The one today from the new CEO thanks veterans in almost every way, but completely forgets to mention those that served there. And to top it off she was in the military... 🤦‍♂️

I think it shows the novelty has worn off after all these years. Public/personal display seems to only be with vets & family members mostly. Commercial display is there with offering vet deals, but not as much. Even when I went over to the school for the Veterans assembly we didn't have the numbers show like years past (still Covid affected?) But on a positive note, the 6th grade kids that did the meet & greet along with being the main kids to set it up were showing some excitement seeing someone in dress uniform showing up (I was the only one to do so.) If they schools would teach a little more on the not so nice parts of American history might let the younger generation see what our fellow vets did to preserve freedom & the lives of their fellow unit members might make them more supportive of those who do what they won't want to do.

"And to top it all off, she was in the military". Probably a younger generation and her tour and yours didn't coincide. No excuse for not doing her homework but a lot of them get buried in the PR Flack aspect of it and get forced to play by the current crop of PC wussie rules so the real meaning and the sacrifice of those who actually had to dig through the rubble or who survived where their friends and comrades did not gets lost in the B*llSh*t. So, just from me, to you, THANK YOU for your service to your nation during 9/11.

America is very grateful to us who served mainly because they didn't have to go do anything for their freedoms, they all have no thanks to themselves! As far as all the businesses giving a token 10% off one day a year, keep it. you need it more than I do.
