All of a sudden one day she just started running rough. Found out I had 2 broken spark plugs and my starter was trashed. Don't ask me how that happened. From talking to friends and going on other forums, instead of listening to myself because I have no real experience with cars, motorcycles yes, cars no. I thought they knew better than me so they had me chasing blind alleys and messing with the carb. Now it's completely out of whack. I just realized that my El Camino has no exhaust manifold gaskets so I installed some. I started a week ago. I have to work outside since I don't have the use of a garage. And as you can imagine I got to a point and it rained for about 4 days straight. Now I have a bracket that I have no idea where it goes and I can't find it in the Chilton. Can someone please help me. I have spent the last 4 hours trying to figure it out and have no clue. Here is a pic of the bracket

I guess I don't know how the orientation of it is. That's what I thought but I can't figure out how it hooks up. Does it hook to the engine at all. Sorry.

the "ears" of that bracket straddle the first two manifold bolts/hardware on the very front of the manifold

Thank you that all helped a ton. Showed me exactly what I needed. I got it back together but am having another issue. Now motorcycles I know but cars is are new to me. I know enough to get me by and keep me out of the shop and just enough more to mess something up but I can learn anything extremely fast. As I said one day she started running bad and I found out I had all these different issues but that was after listening to a bunch of crap and changed settings. A little about my truck. She's an 85 El Camino with a sbc 305 that we are not sure if it's the original. I bought her with a 750 holley, an Edelbrock intake manifold, flow master exhaust with CC delete and crager rims. No rust. Other than that she was 100% 1985 original. I have since replaced the door handles numurous times, starter twice, alternator, blower fan, I need to do the wiper motor. Mine also came with the economy version of the gauges but I had a buddy who sold me the complete gauges all original for $50. I still have yet to hook any of them up other than speedo. Gas gauge reads full until about 2 miles before empty then jumps from empty to full a few times before resting on empty. She Ran fine until a few weeks ago except when I would go to step on the gas a little to fast she would fall flat and then pick back up. That's fine with me. I can deal with that. Now I have fixed the issues and installed a exhaust manifold gasket, there weren't any on it at all. Now she idles rough as hell and getting up to speed is nearly impossible. I'm getting backfiring through the carb on startup. Just a small pop but a pop none the less and a hesitation when driving like she is about to run out of gas. At high rpm she seems okay but it's hard to get her there. Today I forgot to hook up my 2 main vacuum lines. The one from the valve cover and the one off the deal on the driver's side near steering. I'm drawing a blank. The distributor line was hooked up. With the lines off she would start, idle high but when given any gas would die. With one of the line hooked up and the other open same thing either hose didn't matter but when they are both hooked up the idle drops and is super rough and when given gas will fall flat but pick back up and is rough getting the rpms up but when they do she seems fine. I'm not sure where to go from here. Thank you for taking the time to read my looooong post. I found out the more info the better. If anyone has any suggestions on the numurous issues please let me know. I can use all the help I can get. Im rich by no means so money is limited but I do have my ways and I refuse to give up on my dream truck. Shes been fantastic and a real gem to own. Also today I am going to pick up a quadrajet for her. I have the general Chilton for all years, makes and models of gbody vehicles. I also have a 150 page book on Rochester carbs and a 100 page book on Holley carbs. And I have non-issue replacing parts. I just have no idea about diagnosing an issue. I have a timing light, compression tester should be in any day and I am trying to find a vacuum gauge today. Thank you.

85 El Cami myno 305 sbc. I had finally got her up and running. It was very short lived. I was on my way home I realized I had to stop for gas. I pulled into 7-11 and pumped gas. I left my lights on while pumping gas. 7 minutes at minutes
