Also the idea of keeping heat in the exhaust instead of it radiating out keeps the flow velocity higher. This scavenging effect along with lower under hood temperatures creates more power

That's the theory. Not sure if it is much of a help on a street car as far as performance, but it probably helps in O2 sensor applications and it does reduce heat near the headers which was my goal at the time. My wrap is the early version of Thermo Tec. Came in one color back then- off white, but many people painted the stuff black trying to get it to blend. It's likely how diligent you were in wrapping and strapping, as well as avoiding scraping, as to the longevity of the wrap.
