I am saving to build an LS3 and wanted to know how to figure out the correct header size. I plan on putting this motor into a 83-88 Monte Carlo SS. i am also concerned with the clearance to the knock sensors since I will be using the LS1 style due to building it with a 24x reluctor.

See what they make for your car. 1 3/4" to 1 7/8" is fine. No need for more. You'd be surprised how much header you really need. We made 620hp out of 383 with a 1 7/8" header.

Thank you all. I see that they make several different sizes for the G body. Has anyone used the headers from BRPHotrods? I am looking for a set that will clear the Gen III knock sensors and will fit the body with as little modification as possible. I am looking forheaders that help mostly with low to mid power. I wil mostly be running the car on the street with a few times a year at the track and really getting on it.

Do you have a part number for the Hooker headers and are they short or long tube?
