what's goin on guys, Happy New year's eve from California!!
So I took a stroll earlier with my dad.. everything went well exceptwhen we were at a stop the heater core ended up steaming like crazy throughout the interior vents and then started leaking. We ended up disconnecting the hoses and putting spark plugs in them for the meantime till we got back home. so my question is could I just remove it completely w/o serious consequences? I mean i don't really even use the heater at all out here...

Other than no heat, shouldn't be any issues. Plug the block side ports or by pass loop the heater lines & call it a day.

If you remove the heater core how will your defrost work? I could be wrong but I think you need it for everyday driving

I agree. One of my cars has the heater core bypassed and it's annoying having to use a towel to wipe the windshield down. I'm sure it would be worse in a colder climate.

I bought my new Spectra Premium heater core for my 86' Regal for $26 there is no reason to not replace it and have a properly functioning heating system.

I actually replaced the heater core in my wagon when I replaced the evaporator core. My old heater core was still good, but it made more sense to me to replace it while I had the HVAC box open. Pure common sense.

On the other hand, the Foxbody is a pain in the *ss. You have to drop the dash in order to replace the heater core. I guess I got lazy and kept putting it off.

Like the others have said heat isn't the issue defrost is.

Use a razor blade to cut the seal before trying to pull off the top. a small hammer and a putty knife make the job easy.

Also, be aware of hidden screws. I'm sure many heater boxes were destroyed due to frustration and impatience. In other words...don't force it.

Thanks for info Longroof79, my heater core is leaking underneath car, not inside car yet. Just noticed it today. Never replaced one, but got to now. Appreciate the coaching on being patient and not getting frustrated. Bad about getting frustrated. Guess I’ll go purchase one tomorrow.
