79 Malibu when the heater is turn in off position of switched over to cold it till keys hot air in unless I bi pass the heater hoses on heater core ? It's 95 here so add the hot air on ur legs to that.lol. I fixed the vacuum. (So I thought) that controls the heater panel . Can anyone help ?

Does the blower motor shut off?? Just because the vent panels are working doesn't mean the blower isn't still pushing air. And if it is, does your vent door still seal? Some doors lost the little foam gasket that helps them seal

Do you still have the heater control valve in the heater line between the motor and heater core? If not hot coolant will continue to circulate through heater core because nothing is stopping it. That will allow heAt to continue coming out.

Very annoying I know. Two main things you can do.

First read this...

Its a part that fail to close a "trap door" behind the heater controls and allows heat to leak in.

The other thing, which I think is easier more fail proof is get a water shut off valve and stall it in the heater line from the water pump to the heater core.

I had the same problem. The fan was not on but I still had heat coming out of the vents. Get one of theses at any auto parts stores. It works off of the yellow vaccum line from your heater control switch in your dash.

What's it called. What do I ask for?

I can't remember, I think I have one extra if you want it.
