I'm putting a set of Hedman long tube headers on my 1987 442 with a 403. I would like to use a mini starter. I'm assuming these headers were designed around the smaller 260/307 starter, which I don't think will cut it for me. Can anyone with actual experience recommend a gear reduction starter that works with the Hedman long tubes? As a last resort, does an older GM high torque starter fit with these?

I went with a msd starter on my BBC with with hooker headers and when I put my OSB in my wagon I'm going with the msd starter.
With my BBC I went threw 2 starters a season and have had msd on for 4 years now

I believe a full size starter will fit with them. All mini starters are not the same there are a few designs. I actually ground on one to clear the block, fit super tight and very short, even slightly shorter than the Summit BOP starter, which I would not buy again. And sbc mini starters will fit and I really liked the powermaster, their cheapest one. I bought the Summit one first, just garbage.

Powermaster 9510 for the win
Bought one used, worked fine till I overtightened a connection.
I had bad luck with powermaster 9000's, but my 9612 I have had no issues with

And you gotta love where the connections are on the 9510
I have this one, ground on the body slightly and fits really tight and very compact, thinking a copy of the 9510.
