I hope you guys can help. I'm planning to go look at this car on Friday. Owner says it's a 442 but I'm not sure and haven't seen it in person yet. Before I make the 4 hour drive I'd like to have you guys pick it apart and give your opinion on if it's what he says it is. I've looked around and saw some things to look for mainly the 8th digit being a 9 and a 8.5 rear but I've also seen that it wouldn't have wood grain dash.

Sorry for all the questions but I don't know these cars too well. Been a Mopar guys for years but have wanted a G body for years now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The owner says he has the original wheels and steering wheel. He says it's all original when I asked about the paint.

I also thought it should have a dual snorkel air cleaner?

Is that a gm good scoop? Looks bigger then I remembered seeing anywhere.

The cowl data tag should say 442 correct?

Anything else that I can look for to see if it's really a 442?
Personally if it's just a clean Cutlass I'm ok with it because being a real 442 doesn't really matter to me. I like the look and interior of the car. I don't want to pay 442 prices if it's not though.

from the pictures , first thoughts are ...

87 442 - was not offered in white ( 85 only colour )

no dual snorkel air cleaner with the chrome cover.

the spoiler on the trunk lid is not factory.

hood bump is not factory

Ok thanks. I was wondering about those things being when looking up 87 442 I don't see anything like it.

good luck in your search. Anything else could have been swapped in over the years. Check the VIN. 99% positive by both the price and pics that it's a Cutlass with 442 stickers on it. But still a relatively nice car. Guess someone has some xmas bills to pay.

Look for a 9 in the 8th Digit of the VIN.

1st thing I would do is check to see if it's an 8.5 rear, then the Vin :)

Ironically that car is what I was looking for in a Gbody when I was shopping. White, Hardtop 442, then swap on a Euro nose if it didnt have one originally

I messaged the owner to see if he could send me pics of the VIN and cowl plate. Like I said I really like the car in general but want to know what I'm looking at and possible paying for

With the miles on the car it ( in pics ) looks to nice to be all original. That’s a fair price for a clean Cutlass let alone if it is a 442. Gotta figure ( if its ) an 8.5 adds about a grand to the value.

Looks like a Cutlass GT but painted in white. The red stripe gave it away plus it looks like a placard on the console in front of the shifter.
