Hey guys, I’m a newbie to the forum from New York. I have an issue with my 88 cutlass supreme classic brougham. It has the stock 307 5.0 liter V8 with the Quadra jet carb. The engine has an intermittent misfire. It’ll run good for a while then out of no where, the engine begins to stumble, bog out and sometime cut off. Will start right back up with no problem. Every time the engine misfires the check engine flashes. I pulled the codes and I’m getting codes 41 and 42 which leads to the EST Distributor. I replaced the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, new ignition coil and infnition control module. Car still doing the same thing with same code. Any input?

Well you either loading up on gas or something is wrong with the computer controlling the distributor

I agree. I suspect the ECM is at fault. Was also told the issue could be a bad engine ground somewhere.

To me, if you changed each and every one of those individual parts, and it's STILL doing it, it was NOT any of those parts. (excluding defective new parts and your chances of that)...So I would look at what you DID not replace. I would 1st of all look at the 300 Miles of vacuum lines on the 307 engine to see if there are any vacuum leaks. ALSO check your EGR valve! Unhook it and run it, if it performs better, you found your problem. Good luck and please keep us posted!

P.S. Is the car running ok when cold and this is happening at operating temperature?? Perhaps check your choke pull off too, converter clogged? So SO MANY things it could be, just throwing thoughts out there for you.

Thanks! I will give the egr test a try. Yes, even when cold, it’ll still do it.
