Hi all,
I plan on removing the body off the frame of a 1986 MC SS and then rolling the frame out as the current frame has been tweaked in the front. I do have a replacement frame. The front floors are pretty bad so i cant really lift it from the floor. My plan is to run a seat belt through the front body mount supports and use a engine hoist to then get a 4x4 across the body on the pinch body pinch welds so it extends say 6" or so. I did get it up enough to put a small 4x4 in place of the rubber bushings. Do you think this is a safe point to lift from and are the pinch welds strong enough to support the body by 4x4's across and on stacked cinder blocks?
Also, would putting two cut to size 4x4's on the gas tank mounting points and the one across be a safe point to lift the rear? Thanks in advance as I just want to be safe in regards to myself and the body.
Dave

I used four 2x4's, two screwed together each, all under the pinch weld. One pair just in front of the rear wheels and one pair just behind the front wheels, with the front clip still on the car.

I've pulled from the lower holes on the pillar before, the ones that you can see the bottom fender bolt coming through.it's a little window if you will @the bottom of the a pillar.this pic I'm pulling from the wiring bellows hole.they both worked well.i used a pallet jack in the rear.i ran some 4's across the gas tank area.i did use 4's to support it on the pinch welds. I'd steer away from cinder blocks if you can as they can break.

Thanks for the advice! I picked up 4 6 ton jack stands, some PT 4x4's, and took my time. A bit nervy at times but its out.

Plan was to roll the frame out the front but after popping out the rear coils, sliding it out the side just seemed easier and safer than getting it a foot higher.

Its a sketchy garage job, I did it with 4X4's, 2 floor jacks and 8 jack stands. Any way you go about it it's dangerous, but looks like you were as safe as can be, took the time and went slow. That is the only way to do it. Hope your not replacing the front springs with the just the frame..... Its a MF'er! And really dangerous! I about killed myself twice!! LOL Good Luck!
