A couple of weeks back I replaced the steering box with a LARES F41 box.

When I replaced the box I also replaced the pump and both lines.

Started it up ran it turned wheel lock to lock a couple of times.

All was good, back in garage

Haven't drove it been focusing on the Monte.

So now I think the Malibu is jealous................

Went to take the Malibu to the local cruise spot last night.

Pulled it out of the garage no problem.

Washed it and got into it to "air dry" it zooming down the block.

Well half way down the block I notice the steering is tight.

It feels nice and tight.

I say, hey it must be the new LARES F41 box I put in.

Make a turn it's tight, make another turn it's tighter.

Come to a stop sign it;s so tight you can barely turn the wheel.

Rev it up and you can turn the wheel.

Pull it back into the yard and two hand to turn the wheel while it is at a stop.

So this morning I get under the hood crack the pressure line fluid is shooting out.

Crack the return line fluid is shooting out.

So I am guessing the "new" rebuilt pump is working.

Drop the steering box out put my old one back in.

100 times better but the pump is making noise.

So is it the pump not pumping hard enough or is it the LARES box????????

Did the F41 boxes use a different higher pressure pump?? I don't think so.......

I never had this many problems before with parts

Are these rebuilders just retarded?!?!?!?!?!?

At this point I think I am going to just install a manual box. :blam:

Sucks, I know. PS pump needs to put out about 1200 PSI at lock. Whine hopefully is air and hopefully pump is not damaged. You state that fluid is "shooting out" of the return line. This is a low pressure line. Did old gear box die or are you up grading? Debris in pump causing it to croak? Not familiar enough with your box as to pressure needs but I can tell you first hand that air will literally kick your a**. Best way to bleed is after replacement of parts fill reservoir start car and turn to lock on one side and shut car off. Keep reservoir cap off. Let set 15 minutes, re-start and turn wheel to lock on other side and let sit. Do this a couple times and you should be good to go.

This was an upgrade / repair

The old fittings were leaking pretty bad and the pump was noisy so I replaced everything new (rebuilt) pump lines and (rebuilt) F41 box.

Yes the return line was shooting out not as hard as the pressure line but still enough to shoot it 3 feet up in the air.

But the old box is in and works fine now.
