So, since it isn't really possible anymore to go pull a dipstick and tube from the self serve yards for a TH350 (nothing that old with drivetrain), I tried an aftermarket one (Pioneer 768023) which is the correct 27" length. Tube fit OK, stick was alittle off on the markings, but the part I can't figure out is that the tab to bolt to the bellhousing was off by around an inch and a half? WTF? the bellhousing pattern on the Chevrolet engine was the same for at least 40 years. How can you F something that simple up?

Looks like I'll be trying to straighten the tube and stick handle that the previous owner mangled after all.

The BOP bellhousing pattern requires a Chevy style tab to be bent. I had to do it with my last dual pattern TH350C that came off a sbc 305 Caprice going on an Olds 350. It doesn't make since the aftermarket is usually the other way.

What about moving the tab and welding it in the proper position

What about selling a product that actually fits the application listed?

Yeah, I could, but the whole point was to not have to fabricate something. Might as well fix the one I have if I have to get the torch/welder out

I went threw 3 different aftermarket dip stick tubes on the square body crew most of the aftermarket ones are junk! One of them was to big for the hole in the trans... Th400 in a square body! Do you get any more common? 73-91 and it wouldn't fit. I ended up getting a locking one from jegs eBay store that fit good but is way to short for that deep of engine compartment but at least it fit

I agree with you and it would be great if you could actually talk with a real person at the company to ask wtf are they doing selling products that don't fit. I have had junk like that and for me it's less frustrating just to fix the part

It's not the size of your dipstick that matters, It's how you use it!!!

Just be like Ford: fill it up and plug it!
I had to buy a dipstick for old 2010 Dodge Challenger with the Nag 1 5 spd, just a plug on the end. Our 2017 8 spd has no dipstick that I can see. It is the wave of the future.
