High RPM While Driving

Not Sure If This Is The Right Thread Our Not !

Running a 86 Monte Carlo LS . Currently it’s switching gears around 4500 rpm out of first. With little throttle reponse , I could be going 20 mph is she at 3,000 rpm consistently, if I take my foot off the petal & let it cruise it’s around 2,000 rpm. In 3rd gear I’m going 60mph it’s at 4rpm. Don’t know the problem. While just idling she’s sitting around 800 rpm

Governor or TV cable issue are my guesses. How is the TV cable hooked up? Has anyone worked on the governor in your 700? I'm always concerned about line pressures, have you checked them?

Is this a fresh setup or did this just start occurring out the blue?

I'll bet the "elderbock" carb lacks the geometry corrector bracket

Wait a second... 4000 rpm at 60mph in 3rd?? I'm assuming it's a stock rear end, not 4.56 gears...

My Mistake , I’m running A 200-4R trans , adjusted the tv cable & it’s a difference. Plan on going back in adjusting some more , it’s currently shifting at 3500

Adjust the TV cable, and drop the pan and change the filter.

??? Adjusted how? Did you follow Anubis or lilbowtie's instructions? Line pressure gauge? I ask as it appears that you're adjusting the TV cable via shift feel - if you are, then this IS WRONG.
