Got a question. Got an 85 442 that I will be swapping in a 403 using edelbrock heads. That requires using the edelbrock rpm intake that will make the carb sit higher. How much interference issue if any would there be with the hood?

You will have to use 307 motor mounts and a drop base air cleaner. You could have trouble with the intake being to high. I swapped a 400 into my 82 grand prix and used 301 mounts and stock air cleaner from a 301 and an intake and carb from a 75 trans am and was barely able to close the hood. Good luck

I have a 403 with the RPM Intake in my 83 and have no problems with Holley carb and drop base air cleaner.

Interesting, I've got a 403 with a quadrajet , performer intake and stock air cleaner. The air cleaner will rub the hood insulation sometimes. I'd really like to put a RPM intake, but figured it wouldn't fit under the hood. Like to see how some of you are doing this, too.

If you are using the the 403 mounts, that will be your issue plus the stock air cleaner sits higher. The G body 307 mounts are shorter. I still managed to fit an RPM, Qjet with a drop base with 3" filter with the taller 403 B body mounts. It would have rubbed but I cut a hole in the hood. I used a 3.5" filter and needed to trim the supports near the hole I cut, fit great.

That's interesting. I have no idea on the mounts, but they are probably the 403 mounts. One of the tubes on my headers is about 1/4" from the front crossmember, so I'm not sure that I could lower it down. I'd looked at it before, as I think the RPM intake would help my combination.

Also check your body mounts. If they've never been replaced your hood, fenders, everything will be lower than GM intended.

Does anyone have a picture of the different motor mounts next to each other?
