I'll ask this one, is it 3/8" NPT or 1/2" NPT threads? I have in my stash a 3/8" one with the blade instead of the button for a gauge. I even have the button one. All my 1/2" ones are button for gauges & blade for lights.

if it is a single wire connector it would not be hot and your PDF diagram shows the dark green wire is not hot. When you unplug the wire to the sender does the temperature light stay on?

then flemming442 probably has it right, the wire is pinched some place and is grounded causing the light to stay on. Start tracing that wire to find the problem
