I have been considered revisiting frugal roots with the MCSS refresh and get back to dumpster diving in the 'yards. But, the thought of dealing with mentally imbalanced ****tards is a huge redflag. It isn't that I am adverse to confrontation - I thrive on it - or that I cannot handle myself; I just don't want the aggravation.

I used to find going to the junkyard very relaxing.

I would say very uncommon. In the yards I visit in general everybody is civil if not polite. Strangers helping each other, loaning a tool or a helpful tidbit of knowledge. That being said there is always that jackwagon that thinks they deserve what you have.

I hate that story. That guy should have got his teeth knocked out. I'm leary when I'm in the yard by myself. I've been robbed at gunpoint though (not in a junk yard) and that experience makes you far less naieve and less trusting of the general public.

I always wonder how idiots with a big mouths survive. There are plenty of people out there with weapons who would shut idiots like him up.

I have been parts diving for years at the yards around Toronto. I've heard some stories of tools taken and heard some yelling back and forth in the yard at times. Only issue I had ( at Starks probably 20 years ago ) was 3 younger guys come up to me to say " gimme a 10mm wrench ". Intimidation didn't work and I didn't respond just stared them down. They walked away with nothing nice to say but walked away nonetheless. But its to be expected as there are asshats everywhere and I grew up in the inner city where they multiply.

Where do you live? I want to move there.

I use to go to PA to the U Pull It type yards. they were great.

You could spend the entire day there or hit 2 yards grab some lunch and have an awesome time.

It was like my perfect version of Disneyworld!!!!

Until, well I better just keep my mouth shut. I hate not to be politically correct and offend someone.

I haven't been to them in years so maybe they have changed

Last year at Standard someone asked to borrow my phillips screwdriver saying they were 'just over there'. Told them I need it back in 5. Anyways, spent 10 minutes finding them because they weren't 'just over there'! Now when asked I say, " Nope, don't got it".
ps. I will make an exception for G body people.

I worked at a junk yard for almost 3 years and I never saw it happen. Of course the yard I worked at wasn't self service. Very few customers went into the yard but the few who did were usually annoying.

As far as loaning tools, if I don't know you personally, you can forget borrowing my tools. You'd be amazed how many idiots show up at the junk yard to get parts without the right tools or no tools at all. They'd walk up and ask "Do you have a 10mm wrench/socket etc...", I'd usually just say "Yeah". When they stood there and looked stupid for a few seconds they'd finally ask, "Can I borrow it?", I'd say, "No, I'm using my tools, don't you see me working?" If you're gonna pull parts, BRING YOUR OWN TOOLS!!! Like I'm gonna hand over my tools to some idiot I've never met so they can lose them, break them or steal them. Ha!

As far as wanting to start a fight over used tires, it wouldn't surprise me but if I was dude in the story, I'd have bought the two tires I found or me and that idiot would have fought. I'm not gonna let anybody take what's mine without at least trying to defend myself and my property.

There are idiots everywhere nowadays. Never let your guard down.

For the most part though, my junk yard experiences have been pleasant.

I'm super nice to the GORILLA who works the checkout at my favorite junkyard for this reason. If someone wants to steal my parts on the way to checkout, I'm betting he's got my back. He looks like the kind of guy that enjoys breaking up fights because he gets to punch someone.
