I can't tell you about the HP but when I went from an open filter with a drop base to a duel snorkel the duel snorkel drew in more air than the drop base with the open filter according to my AEM air/fuel gauge but my engine is only around 400 hp. Also the results in that test would change if it was done with the engine in a car with the engine at operating temperature and moving down the highway.

That's what I'm currently running (since I haven't yet cut a hole in my hood). Even still, every variation of a 14x3 dropped-base cleaner they tested made within 20 HP of no air cleaner, and each dropped-base setup was estimated to support at least 640 HP. Since I'm currently not making anywhere close to that much power, I don't feel too bad about my current setup.

With my ~300 hp, I don't feel none too bad about my factory housing. If I wanna feel sporty I can toss on my 14x2 I keep as a spare.

I thought it was a good test. My favorite part was either the bowl or the fact that the flipped air cleaner lid actually did pretty decent. However, they never tested a carb hat and large diameter piping to remote cone air filter setup. I'd be curious to see how it compared.

Makes me wonder about my old GM performance 10" with a slightly raised base & K&N (same size as the original 229 filter.) Maybe it would be better than the 14" drop base with a 14"x3" K&N.
