I have a 81 Malibu with a SBC ... I want to know how much people have cut their Moog 5660 springs ... or perhaps were should I start ...

Don’t want to install/ remove them 15 times to figure out the ride height.

Aiming at 2-3 inch lower then stock ...

Thanks !!

for every 1/4 coil cut you will drop 1"....are you planning on a tall lower ball joint? That will drop the ride 1/2"

the uncut 5660 is about 3/4" lower from the stock height but if your springs are original they have most likely sagged

Full length 5660s in an 81, all iron SBC, 245/50-16 tire. Been in just shy of 3 years

This is along the same line, so I will ask it here.

If you were going to take out a V6 and put in a all iron SBC, rebuild the front suspension, run 5660 springs, would you consider ordering 2" drop spindles for a 2000 Blazer (brake upgrade) while you were in there?

All you guys that want to be 2-3" lower than stock must live in areas where the roads are all new interstate highways. Around here, the OE setup will have the tires rubbing the liners on any kind of dip in the road. Partly weak OE springs (also happened in my coupe with new OE-spec springs), but even with good shocks, it has been a problem. I don't think anyone in the Oklahoma DOT knows what a flat smooth road is.

Of course, I drive mine everywhere, cause I'm not into the whole "weekend/nice day/fair weather only" thing. I like driving them.

My 1983 wagon was my DD everywhere in 1994. Looking forward to getting to that place again soon with my 'new' wagon. This is what freshly-intalled stock 5660s look like with CC507s in the back. To be fair, there remain about 70-100 lbs of parts not installed under the hood at this point, so the front might drop a fraction of an inch. I wonder what 5664s would look like, cut or uncut. For a convertible 80s Camaro. They have the maximum spring rate per the 50Megs website cross-reference.
I bought 3" drop springs for the wagon from OPGI. I have not tried them yet - Brian's comment gives me pause. They may be available at a later date.

Quinn, a lot will depend on the rate on those drop springs. I believe the OE-spec springs I put in the coupe were 346#/in. Way too soft for me. I'm happy with the 5660s as far as rate. Installation, however, is another story

Since I live on a 2 mile stretch of gravel dirt road and it rains every other day, I'm suffering from wagon withdrawl...I drive the truck on muddy days. Did get to drive it to work a week ago for one day. Sure was easier when I lived in the city, got driven rain or shine then, but I draw the line at 3" of mud in the liners
