And what exactly are the benefits? I'm doing the frame notch currently and I'm getting a 9" built very soon. Looking at the stock 7.5 rear there doesn't seem to be that much to narrow before you run into a mount. Maybe a half inch on each side? I'm at work so not measuring it exactly.
I would like to stuff as wide a tire as possible with a wheel with a decent dish to it.
Any help or opinions are appreciated. I've installed a few rear ends in the past but all were stock sized. All the reading I have done and not found anything about this combo on our G bodies. Maybe because there is no benefit ????????

I had the Moser in my 81 narrowed by 5/8" on each side. It gave me just enough clearance at the wheel opening where the 275s dont hit the trim.

Unless you have a current set of wheels you are trying to make fit better I don't think it will really matter since you would just buy wider rims with the correct backspace to make use of the added space provided by the frame notch.

That much I think I understand but many wheels don't have the available backspace correct ? I've done my share of wrenching but this will be the first time "ordering" new rims !
Your Monte is bad to the bone btw !

The $$ you would spend on a custom rear housing and axles doesnt justify the gain.

Turns means that should you ever decide to sell the rear end (for what ever the reason may be), it will be easier to sell it if it's the stock width rather than narrowed. Same goes for the wheels, easier to sell a set of wheels with a more common backspacing rather than an oddball custom backspacing

And that is about as far as you can go before you develop some real fitment issues using stock suspension pick up points.

When I had the S60 built for our wagon I was really tempted to have it narrowed by an inch (1/2" per side), and in retrospect I should have given the tire/wheel combo. However, the issue is the shocks would be hitting the brake caliper banjo bolts... and no doubt a few other fitment issues would have snowballed from there as well.

And this is with notched frame rails and rolled fender lips.
