1987 Monte Carlo Black original paint. This is a 10ft. car. Looks great at 10ft and good up close.

This is a driver not a show car. Preservation not perfection is my goal. I have a stone chips in a few spots, some have a bit of rust forming in them. What is the best way to treat this rust and paint the spot without having to re-do a complete panel?

It's very likely a base/clear situation being an 87. Even so, you'll need to do a little sanding and leveling of the chip to blend it. Some detailers have the skill to touch up chips rather well. You'll pretty much always know they're there if you look, but you can minimize the chip's look.

There's 4000 different ways to skin this cat as others will likely chime in with another solution, but this video shows just one way to do it. But you can get the idea of what needs doing. First, though, you will need to get all the rust out of the chip area, otherwise you'll just be pissing up a rope.

Edit: Tried to post a video but for whatever reason, it kept coming up "this video not available" but it is.

Here's a couple of vids that you can look at on youtube to give you an idea. Just paste these number in
