I cleaned mine up, sanded them with scotchbright, on the metal I used etching primer then painted them with base black and then covered it with matte clear. Then after the front end gets beat with rocks on the highway I got a can of Sem Trim paint and I touch it up regularly. If your car is a DD it will need touch ups so keep that in mind when your doing it. I spent alot of time making it look as perfect as I could get it but it didn't last long...

I would investigate some type of polyurethane clear coat to put over the base coat so that it doesn't chip. It would be a lot harder to chip. They can make it so that it isn't so glossy if you don't want it to be super shiny.

Maybe as an experiment paint one that's cracked or no good and drive around with it for awhile. Not sure if it will work but worth a try.

I was actually just thinking of doing the Plasti Dip coating for my bumpers. I have seen several truck bumpers coated in the stuff and it seems to be holding up great for those guys. There is a guy on the GRM forum that Plasti dipped an entire Mazda FD

I would spray some good adhesion promoter on the before I sprayed them with paint.

I used a can of adhesion promoter for mine, a flexible fiberglass filler meant for bumpers/plastic underneath. Worked fine.

I did seen some cars painted with plasic dip paint but i think they used some kind of speacial Clear coat on it but it Looks really Good but im still deciding on it?
