I found a very.good used set of the rubber seals. They are "dry" in the usual areas. Does anyone have a method of restoring "moisture" in them? I heard mayonnaise wrapped in saran wrap for a few months will do it. Thoughts?
Chemically the softener needed is; xylene, ethylbenzene mixture plus napthalene or close cousin toluene. Napthalene is main ingredient in moth balls, or moth ball flakes, getting in liquid form is prohibitively expensive.
Open market is Rubber Renue,
I haven't used personally, I always just used mineral oil sometimes mixed with a little SAE 30W, or 30W alone or thin cutting oil like 3 in 1. All with mixed results. Once the aromatic oils off-gas out of the rubber, its very difficult to reconstitute.
Hope that helps and not a goose chase.
