I have a cruise control on my 79 cutlass and was wondering if anybody knows how to remove it? I went to take it out but wasnt sure what the two cables were. One of them looks like a speedometer cable but I am not sure. Are there any wires I will need to hook back up to anything? Any help would be nice.

I just pulled the whole thing out on my 84' and it was real simple. The cable comes out and no wires to hook back up on mine. Pretty simple, everything that goes through the grommet in firewall comes out as one.

A factory manual would be a wise investment here, as it shows an exploded diagram. Basically the two speedo cables will need to be replaced with a single long one. The part that hooks to the carb throttle comes off (chain? rod?), the vacuum line to the brake switch comes off, and the wiring gets removed. A non-cruise stalk can be swapped into the steering column. All hardware removed. Or if you are lazy like me, just disconnect the carb part and it's neutered.

If you check Rockauto there are various length speedo cables available. The total of your current 2 cables should be in the ballpark. Measure carefully and see what you need.

To remove the cruise get the proper length cable for your car basically what ever your stock engine combo was with out cruise, then trace back your vacuum lines anything hooked up to manifold vacuum or ported vacuum needs to be disconnected and put silicone caps to plug off the ports. Then you can start unbolting all the cruise control parts, if you dont want to change the speedo cable leave the piece on the wheel well with the cables hooked up but disconnect everything else attached to it. Your cruise is now gone. If you dont want it sell it to me lol.

I would sell it but i dont know if it worked I never tried it, and I dont want to sell somebody a piece of junk.
