How to remove round spring in hood latch/hinge assembly??

ive searched but couldnt find a thread. so how do you remove the round spring?

Very carefully with a vise-grip.

Clamp down onto the flat portion as tightly as you can and slowly rotate the spring off the stop and back off the tension.
It should go back about half a rotation and then it just slips out of the slot.

vice grips a good idea i caught one in the mouth a couple years ago
