I have an option to get a g body hydroboost setup minus the power steering pump for pretty cheap. I went ahead and bought a nice polished aluminum power steering pump a few months ago and I really want to use it both for looks and because it was pretty expensive. What do I have to do to use hydroboost with a normal saginaw style pump? Is it as simple as drilling a hole in the reservoir to add another return line from the booster? Im seeing that some used 2 pressure lines from the pump and some used 1 from the pump. Thanks for any info...

No drilling required. The one line just gets Tee'd

Here is my setup. Engine bay is still dirty and has overspray.

IMHO the Best brake system ever put on our cars. Never worry about low vacuum with a radical cam and no stupid electric motor to fail... Not to mention it is compact and takes very little space compared to the other options

How does this hydroboost unit compare with full-size Chevy trucks? I have three of those in the shed.

Ok good to know! Can anyone tell me where I might find a set of braided hoses for this setup? I know I can make them but im wondering if they are already made somewhere.

I have mine set up with a tee fitting as well, for the time being.

There have been cases where there is too much restriction in the line and the brakes don't work properly. In that case you have to run a dedicated return line from the hydroboost back to the P/S pump reservoir.

It's been so long ago that I read this that I can't remember if the people where having issues with the brakes applying on their own, just hanging up and dragging or if they didn't have enough brake assist.

Just something to keep in mind.

Ok I might just add a fitting to be safe. One more question: After checking the pics he sent me the power steering pump that was from this setup looks to have 2 pressure lines and one return. So what is different in this setup? I will try to post the pics.

I got the original diesel g-body hydroboost, which now has a tee before the later model ls1 ps pump. As stated , if tee doesn't cause too much restriction, it's fine. Also I'm pretty sure the similar year full size truck hydroboost units are pretty much the same thing.

Haven't seen a stock hydroboost reservoir in years, but I'm pretty sure you're looking at 2 returns & 1 output. Short return hose would be from ps gearbox. Longer return from hydroboost. High pressure pump output goes to hydroboost. High pressure output from hydroboost then goes to steering box.

I had a couple of lines made at a hydraulic hose shop years ago

Research courtesy of RockAuto.com The upper photo is with built-in reservoir, and the lower is for remote reservoir. Options depending upon how you want to set up your G.

The truck one functions the same but need an adapter to attach it to the fire wall. There is an astro van unit that is a popular swap but it too requires the adapter to bolt it to the firewall. There is a guy in Dallas, Tx named Elliott Sydnam, who makes up adapters to fit the hb to anything.

I went with the bolt in for my car from an 84 Turbo Regal but the one from a diesel will work also. I got the hb unit and both pressure lines. If you don't have it the pedal will need modified from its vacuum configuration to the pin height for the hb(move the pin on the pedal).
I also had to "massage" one of the pressure lines to fit in my configuration. Not sure what you have so you may or may not have to. My Swap

FE3X CLONE, I've not heard this but I guess it is possible. Must have used some real small return line or had a kink.
