With the weather getting warmer, I'm starting to think about my forthcoming EFI conversion. My FiTech kit is sitting in its new box in my garage, just waiting for me to install it. The only thing I haven't yet acquired is an in-tank EFI pump, but buying that will be easy enough.

The more pressing concern is the tank itself. Yes, I could just convert my stock tank and install the pump in it... though I'd much rather have an internally-baffled tank. Furthermore, I am already tired of the frequent fuel stops. I am not opposed to buying a new tank; if it gives me added capacity, I'd actually prefer to go that route.

I did some searching here, but most upgrade options I found seem to favor the El Camino crowd since their body does not have a spare tire well hanging down into the fuel tank area. My '80 Grand Prix is obviously another story. Do we have any upgrade options? Is there any hope for an EFI setup that can hold more than 17 gallons at a time?

Any help you guys can provide would be very... helpful.

If you don't mind loosing trunk space you could mount a 20 gallon fuel cell on the trunk floor or if you don't mind doing some welding you could recess it into the floor by welding supports to the frame rail but you would need an extended fill set up doing that.
If you think this could be an option I prefer the ones with safety foam, a sender and a 2" sump to make use of all the fuel.

IMO not worth loosing the trunk for 3 gallons or even the cost of a custom tank.

I would get a GN / 4.3 Monte tank since they were baffeled for the FI

90's Caprices had a 22 gallon tank, fuel injection and the filler neck came out behind the license plate. I'm guessing all B body cars were the same?

Will it fit? I have no clue. One concern is that the Caprice/Impala had the spare in the trunk and if I remember correctly they didn't have the spare tire well that G Bodies have.

I don't know if that'll help you or not but it's something to look into.

I agree but it depends on the purpose of the car, I have a 20 gallon cell in my Monte but there is also a battery, nitrous bottle and roll bars taking up the rest of the space.
For my 86' Regal I plan on getting the GN tank since I do want the trunk space for that car and eventually want FI.

The B bodies spare sits under the rear window/shelf.

If your main concern if fuel economy then I would invest my time and money into an overdrive transmission.

That would save you more than 3 gallons.
