How do you identify a short and long water pump and can anyone tell me what I have? The one on my motor is a stock replacement for my 80' Malibu and am looking at replacing it, so i need to know what to get.

That is a long water pump. The most common cars that had a short pump was the vettes.

Not quite....ALL Chevy passenger car and light trucks small blocks used the short water pump from 1955 thru 1968. After that time they were used on Corvettes and Chevy trucks for many more years.

Also an easy visual check to tell the difference is that the short water pump almost touches the timing chain cover.

The two turnbuckles was me trying out a different way of mounting the CS130 alternator rather than the stock brackets. The setup did work, but I found a polished aluminum bracket and turnbuckle that are nice show pieces on eBay for $25, so I'm going that route now. But the turnbuckles in the pic did work as a second way of mounting the alternator.
