My mechanical pushrod fuel pump on my 350 sbc is not working. Rather, then replace it I will be getting an inline fuel filter. I want to know how to install it. Should it go at the front of the car where the mechanical fuel pump is now? Can I run it through the mechanical fuel pump? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I don't think we understand. Your fuel pump is blown, but you want to put a inline filter in? What do you plan to use as a pump?

I'm gonna cut him some slack. You cannot run it through the mechanical pump. But if you have a stock engine or nearly stock why create more possible issues? Not ragging you but unless the cam is wiped out I would go back with a mechanical. Cheaper, easier and more dependable.

to make it an easy job to replace the mechanical pump

remove this bolt and use a bolt about 1/2" longer. Once the pump is out, ensure the cam is turned so that the pump push rod is in the upward position.

push the rod up and gently screw in the bolt till it hits the pushrod, don't put much pressure on the rod

after you install the pump so not forget to install the stock bolt.

Pontiacgp awesome post. The push rod can be character building especially with an air pump. I have seen seasoned techs struggle and get frustrated. It is a knack to install.
