I bought a TKX after deciding I would like to have over drive since I drive my car a lot. After doing some research I bought the Perfect Fit from Silver Sport. The unit with the shifter to fit the factory 4 speed hole is very nice. Their cross member is also very nice.
The initial issue I ran into was that I thought I would only have to remove the shifter hump and move it to the rear (not a big deal). Then I found I needed to trim the floor opening on the rear side for some more shifter clearance (also not a big deal). Once everything was bolted in I realized that my clutch fan is now making hard contact with the stock fan shroud. I did not have this issue with my 4 speed. I took a measurement of the engine and transmission angle and found that it was now at 6 degrees down (to the rear). Same measurement (performed prior) with the 4 speed was 3 degrees down (to the rear). From what I have found, 3 to 3.5 down is what a factory V8 G body is.
The issue is that Tremec locates the transmission mount pad up higher (closer to the main shaft). I remember going through this years ago with a Tremec 3550 and later a TKO 600. They do this for floor clearance but at the sacrifice of proper operating angles on the u joints.
So now, my issue is this lower mounting of the transmission throws off the U joint operating angle and causes my fan to hit the fan shroud because the front of the engine is now tilted higher.
I spoke to a representative at Silver Sport Transmissions technical department about my issue and they are aware of it. He said the engine should be between 1 and 4 degrees down and recommended that I shim the transmission up to correct the angle. They carry shims to install between the transmission and the transmission mount. I decided I would make my own with what I have around here. I jacked the transmission up as high as I could and slipped flat stock in there. I found that with the car level and 1.145" of spacer gets me to 4.0 degrees down. There is no more room to to raise it unless I cut the top of the tunnel off at the rear of the trans. I also have to make a spacer to raise the shifter hump to clear the shifter tower.
At 4.0 degrees down I have gained clearance in my fan shroud and I technically am within the 1 to 4 degrees range, but now I have the top of the transmission uncomfortably close to the trans tunnel.
I can't tell you how aggravated I am after spending $3600 plus for the trans and another $350 for the cross member.

Shockingly, a bolt in kit doesn’t ‘bolt in’ without some mods.

Sounds like it’s hammer time (after taking the trans back out)

Can the engine be lowered to keep things aligned?

And thats exactly why I didn't buy a kit. Sold as one thing then you find they straight out lie to you...

That would really suck. The only way I can see that is if there are another set of holes in the frame below where the current holes are.
Would be easier to slot the holes in the engine bracket rather than try to move the whole mount assembly.

If you haven't done so already, i would replace your body to frame bushings with new. Old ones will sag with age, causing body to sit closer to the frame.

After work yesterday I spent some time leveling the car and then improvising shims at the transmission mount. With 1.070" of shim I was able to get the driveline angle (as measured at the crank dampener) to 3.9 degrees down. This puts it into the acceptable range and gets the clearance back at the fan shroud. I thought (for a brief second) of lowering the engine but my headers are already dreadfully close to the frame on the passenger side and it will just end up reversing the fan clearance issue to the opposite direction.
I think I have a solution for the shifter clearance. I made a template and cut out a piece of dense foam to put between the shifter hump and the floor.
