Names John, my son (he's 15) and I recently bought this 86 Monte Carlo SS for a project car. We like the body style and the power potential. The Monte has 58K original miles and is mainly stock, no rust and very clean. Only; wheels, alarm, stereo and speakers seem to be custom.

We joke how it looks like a drug dealers ride but, we're changing the image of the car to a street performance image.

Our plans;
Ditch the 22" wheels, upgraded suspension and steering components, LS3 or Blueprint 383 with EFI, auto 4 speed or manual trans, rebuild the rear end and restore some of the car's door decals.

Everyone has hopes and dreams for their new cars but, one thing for sure; the 305 and that 200R4 must go! We have an LS3 long block now for a different project, and as soon as our garage is built we'll contemplate our engine and trans options.

John.

Welcome and it looks like a nice clean car to start with, I am not a fan of the current wheels either but at least the rest of the car appears to be unmolested.

Yeah, great paint and appears to have never been wrecked.
Those Wheels are a pain in the butt. At 28" total height x 9.5W; They're way too big, they scrape and have damaged the wheel wells. We want to replace them with some black 17" rim and maybe some BF Goodrich white letter tires.

They aren't the worse wheels we have seen on these cars, but looking forward to what you and the kid put together on your project

Welcome! The 200-4R is an amazing transmission when built right. But, toss the 305... or put Super Sniper EFI and TorqStorm blower on it an make really good power for less than the LS3 and/or BP 383.

Motorhead Mike, surprisingly the 305 functions perfectly; It was taken care of. From a dead stop she Burns Out nicely, leaving two nice posi burn outs. So, it has power and the trans does not slip at all; in fourth gear the converter locks up like it's supposed to.

For Father's Day, the son and I changed the engine oil and did a transmission service and also r&r that converter lock solenoid. Not sure if it needed to be replaced but someone mentioned I should probably do that since I was going to have the pan off. Everything look good.

The only modifications we're going to make this summer will be the wheels.

We really want to get the AC working. The belt is off the compressor and I'm not sure of the Integrity of the system. I'll search The Forum and seek out help to get the AC functioning.

mclellan83, thanks for the comment; that's a hot looking 84 you have.
Once we make some significant changes, we'll post updates.

Appreciate it, what wheels are you going to put on it?
