Is there a way to test the oil pressure gauge?

I have my gauge cluster out and this is the second time....my first attempt remedied a lot of issues but I still had the oil pressure
gauge reading over 60.

I just took the gauge cluster apart again and made sure all the contacts were secure and so forth. ALL my other gauges read fine..

I DID put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the engine and it read 40 PSI. I also replaced or tried another oil sending unit and the gauge
still reads pegged over 60.

Is there anything I am missing here? Or is the gauge bad? I'd like to have everything working before I button things up again.........

NEVER

Trust those factory gauges.

Install an aftermarket set if you can.

Those gauges even when new where never that accurate.

Are they working at all or sporadically?

I tried this suggestion from a member a time back but it did not work

When I bought my 79H/O my gauge read 60 psi. I would bet that the sending unit is shorted. Here are some repair instructions

1. turn key on do not start check gauge does it read 60 psi. If so sounds like sending unit.

2. Unplug sending unit turn key on gauge should read 0 psi. If so replace sending unit

Following this should repair your gauge

Push on the cluster when it is running see if the needle jumps

If it does somewhere harness connection circuit board thing etc is loose

It seems the needle doe NOT want to go back to ZERO...........with the key OFF the unit goes back to less than 60 just under 60, but as soon as the key is
turned on the needle goes to pegged........

Wellston, OK
Sticky needle tells me I'd try another gauge. Looks similar to the Chevrolet version but with a white pointer. BUT, I have no idea if the mounting, etc is the same.
