Hmnn only meant to be helpful. Didn't mean to offend if I did. I should have worded that different or better left it out entirely. The 700-R4 is a way better choice and worth the extra work for a driver over a 3 speed. A good bang for the buck also, so kudos and yea I like the car. What I was referring to was the low first gear in the 700 was meant to help small engines get heavy vehicles moving from a stop. Like the early 80s weak 305 in a heavy full size pickup for example. The flip side is it makes an engine like yours that has a high amount of torque at lower rpms step through the torque so fast it really doesn't get to utilize it to accelerate the car. Especially in a lighter car plus it makes spinning tires real eazy. For example if you put a numerically lower first gear in the 700 which can be done she would actually be quicker and 60 foot better at the drag strip. Sorry I brought it up though because its probably irrelivant for your goals for this car as I don't believe you intend to squeeze out every tenth and haven't said anything about rebuilding the trans. But it is why I said tall (rear) tires will help.
Yea I would be a big fan of the aluminum heads. Might recommend they still be cleaned up and the valve job checked by a shop that does performance heads. I had my headers coated on both cars and both times I noticed a considerable difference in underhood heat. Its worth some power and it saves all your hoses, carberator gaskets, just everything from premature heat fatigue. Hey you should put these pics in your photo album so that they are still accessible to anyone long after this post is gone. Maybe some highlights in your signature line as well. Just a suggestion.
