Despite the fair weather the weekend wound up being a bit of a bust just due to getting busy with other things. Spent Friday night dealing with an injured chicken, Saturday running errands and picking up the leaves for hopefully the last time this year, and today was more errands and spent some time winterizing the chicken coop and doing various outdoor work around the house while I still can. I actually did get a lot done, I just don't have a whole lot to show for it.

I suppose the weekend wasn't a total bust, because I did pick this up yesterday-

I started doing some wire wheeling on the frame today. I f*cking hate this kind of work. Its noisy and makes a ton of smelly dust in the garage and usually has everyone in the house bitching. I use a really good dust mask but even with the mask, dust still seems to wind up in your nose. Anyway I worked until the cheap Harbor Freight wire wheel started flying apart and shooting wires at my face. I still have a lot more to do but it already looks better.

I'm not sure what I'm going to paint this with. Chassis Saver, POR-15 and brush on Rustoleum come to mind. I used SEM Rust Trap on the F150 and I wasn't thrilled with it.

I do need to get a compressor. Mine died a while ago and I've gotten by this long without one but if I'm going to do any die grinding or painting I need one. I can use a conventional spray gun so I don't need anything huge to run a HVLP, but I want something big enough to run a media blasting cabinet eventually. I only have 120V in the garage which is a huge handicap when shopping compressors but I'm sure I can find something.

I woke up with a nasty cold yesterday and pretty much feel like *ss, so I'm not expecting to do a whole lot until I get over this bug.

Hope you feel better soon Joe. I started getting the cold last night. Blasting takes a lot of air. Look at blasters first to see the air requirements.

Thanks Jared. The whole family is getting it. Seems to just be the cough, sore throat, and sinus congestion. No fever or throwing up. So nothing to do but rest it out. I've got tomorrow and Wednesday then I'm off till Tuesday. I'll probably be better just in time to go back to work, lmao.

If I get a blast cabinet it's just going to be the Harbor Freight one. They say it takes 9.5 cfm at 90 psi and a 30+ gallon tank to run it. The tank size is no big deal but it might be a little hard to get to 9.5 cfm on 120V. I'll have to shop around a little.

I really like my Emax Hulk silent air compressor, looks just over $400 US at Home Depot. It is 5.8 cfm at 90 psi with a 20 gallon tank and incredibly quiet, seems even quieter than the 41 decibels rating. I plumbed it inline with my old Coleman 25 gallon compressor. The Coleman only builds 40 psi and is so loud, so I just use the tank. I am also planning on some blasting, just have a siphon feed one right now. I am very power limited as well, one 30 amp breaker. I would suggest any other brand of compressor be on the opposite side of where you work and or wear hearing protection. I could not stand being in my shop with my old air compressor running. Good luck on your search.

I'll look into it, thanks for the suggestion. Noise is definitely a factor. My old compressor (a 10 gal Campbell Hausfeld) was extremely noisy. If I had it on in the garage you could hear it running on the third floor. It was fine for blowing dust off, filling tires or running a nail gun and it would even run an impact gun intermittently, but it was really undersized for the work I did with it.

I think with this next unit I'm going to mount it to a pallet and put in the mechanical/storage room on the other side of the wall in the garage. Then I want to plumb it through the wall and put maybe two or three quick connects in a couple spots around the garage.

Doing this way should have a few benefits. One it won't take up any space in the garage. Two it won't take up any electrical outlets in the garage, and it'll be on a different circuit than the garage so I won't have to worry as much about tripping breakers when running it with other tools. Three, having it in a different room should help insulate noise. And lastly, the mechanical room is climate controlled, so it would be kept at constant temperature, which in theory should help reduce condensation in tank.

Trust me, this compressor is so quiet, you won't even know it is running in the other room. That sounds like a perfect spot and piping is nicer than hoses for sure. I still need a good inline dryer for blasting and painting but otherwise works well for my tiny garage.

That's awesome. Quiet is a big plus with an attached garage. I've got lights, I've got heat and pretty soon I'll have air.

I did a little bit of work on the car today. Not much. But I got underneath and and cut off as much of the old fuel and brake lines as I could with a pair of cutters. I'll have to lift the body up a couple inches to remove what is left of them (less than a foot or so of each) but I don't think I want to do that until I have new lines ready to go on. I also removed the front section of e brake cable from the firewall. Only took a minute but now there is nothing left on the firewall to remove.

Paraphrasing an old episode of Roadkill, I'm chipping away everything that isn't a badass (Regal).

This cold is kicking my *ss but I don't want to sit still.
