Gotta use the dye for the soft trim & fabrics. There are some exceptions to the rule as I'm still lucky after 26 years with my hard plastic cluster & 20 years on the hard plastic floor shifter trim. I tried with the same paint on the softer panels & it all flaked even with the proper prep.

I enjoyed revisiting this thread. Page 1 gives me flashbacks to the identical wagon/configuration I bought in 1988, not much behind you in age... Why does that year feel like ancient history?

Well i was 8 in 1988. Have to fast forward to 1994 when i bought my first car for 50 bucks. And it went to the junk yard before i had my learners permit. 1984 s10 engine was junk. Didnt know how to swap a engine until i was 16 or so. But yes it was a while ago
