For the G-body Olds guys, one of the hardest console parts to find new which gets a ton of use is the "slide" or dust shield plate for the standard shifter handle. GM p/n 22507747.

It appears you can get them new now. The Parts Place is selling them. I just ran across it while piddling around. Have no idea how long they've been available but I've never seen it before and they're touting it as "new".

A bit pricey (used to buy them for fairly cheap when available from GM) but if you don't have one, or yours is worn and scraped up, bent, warped or broken, here's your chance. These get worn a lot because of the way the shifter moves the slider which scrapes up along the bottom of the shifter plate and the guide bars in the console over the years.

I know getting the rest of the console parts are hard to find as well, but this one seems to be made of unobtanium. At $39.00, if you need one, it's not cheap but also not bank-breaking. The originals have the molded bucket piece on the bottom side for the indicator lamp and is fused on to the lamp tab on the slider. The repro appears to have a semi-transparent bottom piece attached. I'd personally paint that black to keep any light from escaping.

I haven't bought one, so I have no idea of the quality of the part, but at least there's one available. I'm wondering also if replacing the indicator lamp with a cooler running LED lamp to minimize the risk of heat. I'm assuming the plastic isn't as heat resistant as the original. Just a thought.

Considering the only thing before was NOS GM stuff, it's a bargain if you could even find one. Last NOS one I saw for sale they were asking over 100. And getting it.

I imagine they didn't make thousands and thousands of them. There are significant tooling and production costs to consider and unless they can sell literally tens of thousands of them, they have to recoup that somewhere. If I needed one I'd get one. I swear its like people just want free stuff. *shrug*

Didn't one of the factory consoles have the plastic slider with horizontal grooves in it? I guess I am kind of oblivious to this stuff since factory correct was never really my thing.

Yes. Only on the top though. :) Look closely at this pic of an NOS one you can see the grooves. (BTW, they're asking $165 for this one.)
